DAY 27 & 28 - THANK YOU DINNERS

THURSDAY:
Had a nice easy day, relaxing by the pool again.  Temp is hanging in there in the low 30's and it's been overcast with the odd rumble of thunder and lightning here and there but it's also been really humid - actually feels more like high 30's and all you have to do is sit or stand in the sun for 10 minutes before you start perspiring like crazy...  Wouldn't last long around here without the pool!

Abe picked us up (Pon stayed home, not feeling well) and we met up with his buddies Stuart and Phil for dinner at the Mata Hari Restaurant, here in Jomtien.  This was a farewell/thank-you dinner for Stuart and Phil who helped arrange for us to rent this condo.  They had also provided us with a lot of advice/info to make our stay as pleasant as possible.  Had a lot of laughs and enjoyed an excellent meal.

FRIDAY:
In the morning Linda and I took a baht taxi to Central Mall, downtown, wanting to get our hair cut and do a little shopping.  Danny & Phil stayed back at the condo with a little "to do" list of their own:  Rest & relax / check on our missing laundry / rest & relax / arrange driver to airport on Monday / rest & relax / etc.

We were just a little apprehensive walking into a salon where we knew it was luck of the draw that we'd find anyone with strong English skills.  We both played it safe and instructed them to "just take a little bit off"...  All worked out ok and definitely can't complain about the price - 300 baht ($9.73) for a shampoo, head massage, cut and blow-dry.

Abe and Pon let us know they were planning on returning to Karat on Saturday so we asked if they could join us for a last, farewell dinner.  Ended up going to The News again, a favourite restaurant and within walking distance.  Unfortunately, we decided to go with their buffet this time and it was just ok - not quite up to the usual standard we'd previously enjoyed.  Still, an enjoyable evening.  Came back to the condo and presented Abe and Pon with a thank-you gift, a really neat wall clock that Linda and I had picked up when we were out at the mall.  Abe and Pon also had a gift for us; they knew we'd been looking at shells and were particularly interested in finding a large conch or something similar.  Of course, they knew exactly where to find them.  They really are very thoughtful, generous people and the shell will be a nice memento to remember them and this trip by.

Another beautiful sunset from the balcony
